Why are OSU, City of Stillwater, CREC and C.H. Guernsey working together?

  Creating Understanding – Today’s energy environment is changing and becoming very complex and it is imperative that we create a knowledge base for meeting the multiple challenges. Increased awareness and understanding will allow us to maintain the quality of life that affordable and reliable energy has brought to consumers and our nation.
  Shaping Policy – Our nation is without real direction when it comes to a sustainable energy policy. The coalition believes that we must begin from a grassroots standpoint begin to shape and influence policy within our institutions, community, state and nation. Creating policies that maintain affordable energy, policies that are fair and the utilization of technologies that are achievable.
  Developing Partnerships – A recognition that the task in front of us is monumental and will require a partnerships that bring leaders together working in collaboration and cooperation for the betterment of the consumers, constituents, stakeholders ultimately those we serve.

How will the Smart Energy Source initiative impact our community?
  Affordable Solutions – collectively working to assure that energy solutions are affordable for both utility operations and consumer solutions. These opportunities include the ability to increase overall system efficiencies, improve productivity, decrease cost and make greater use of our assets.
  Power our Economy – understanding how important energy is to our economy and job creation is a focus of this partnership. The coalition provides significant opportunities to position our community, region and state as the location of choice for future commercial and industrial consumers as the need for affordable rates and high reliability standards continue to increase.
  Energy Innovations – history has proven that technology and innovations have driven the progress of our nation and the economy. The partnership will leverage the many areas of research and development to assure that new innovations that are practical, achievable, and economical are evaluated and implemented for the betterment of our organizations, community and consumers.

What is the Smart Energy Source initiative all about?
  Optimizing Assets – Evaluating the economic opportunities to maximize the return on investment of current and future investments. Being responsible for what public tax dollars have been invested in and working to assure the optimum level of productivity and efficiencies with these assets.
  Leveraging Resources – today’s greatest challenge will be the need for high skill sets and intellectual capacity to uncover new innovations, technologies and methodologies of managing energy. The partnership brings together not only physical resources but a new level of thinking and leadership that will be required in this new environment.
  Enabling Consumer Participation – in order to meet our energy challenges it will require partnerships with our consumers and the public as well. The business plan process provided an in-depth evaluation of how the Smart Energy Source partnership could enable consumer participation.
  Enabling New Products and Services – new technologies and innovations are coming to the energy market at a very rapid pace. The Smart Energy Source partnership has evaluated how these new services and products can be captured to benefit our community and coalition in areas of economic growth , job creation and enhanced quality of life.
