Building Our Energy Future Together is a grassroots educational campaign that needs the involvement of all segments of our community — energy consumers, business owners, public officials, students, researchers, the young and the not so young. By joining the journey, you can begin to learn how Smart Energy Source will change how Central Rural Electric Cooperative, the City of Stillwater, Oklahoma State University and the engineering firm C.H. Guernsey & Co. are reinventing how they serve consumers and the community.
To get involved, return to the
home page, fill out the
Join the Journey form and take the pledge:
"I pledge to make a difference in our energy future by being more aware,
by joining the collaboration and by taking action."
Stage One — Boarding the bus
Sign up to join the journey by completing the short form on the Building Our Energy Future Together home page, or click
here. By completing the form and submitting your contact information to Smart Energy Source, you are taking the pledge to be involved. You will then receive:
• A monthly Building Our Energy Future Together newsletter
• A weekly emailed energy tip
• A free energy efficient compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulb
Stage Two — Picking up speed
The opportunity to get involved doesn’t stop with boarding the bus. You can also take part in a community-wide, home weatherization effort, the [Energy Makeover] program. The program allows people to sign up for a free walk-through energy audit of their home, which is followed by teams of local church volunteers that will make weatherization improvements, such as caulking windows, weather stripping doors and changing inefficient incandescent light bulbs to CFLs. You can get involved in the Energy Makeover program in several ways: Sign up to have an Energy Makeover done at your home; organize or join a team of Energy Makeover volunteers at your church; donate to the Energy Makeover program (visit
www.theenergymakeover.coop for more information). Those joining the journey at Stage Two receive:
• A monthly Building Our Energy Future Together newsletter
• A weekly emailed energy tip
• A free energy efficient compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulb
• Home improvements utilizing the Energy Makeover program
Stage Three — Shifting into high gear
By joining the journey at this level, you will receive a comprehensive energy audit of your home that will include a blower door test, infrared imaging and computer modeling. You will also receive recommendations for efficiency improvements or upgrades to your home’s appliances, heating and cooling systems, insulation, or exterior features such as windows. If you sign up to Join the Journey at this stage and agree to make at least one significant home improvement, you will receive:
• A monthly Building Our Energy Future Together newsletter
• A weekly emailed energy tip
• A free energy efficient compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulb
• Join the Journey yard and window signs
• A comprehensive energy audit with a blower door test, infrared imaging and computer modeling
Stage Four — On the open road
The final stage of joining the journey is using online tools and other technologies to manage your energy use. A great tool available from CREC is MySource Meter, which allows you to monitor your daily or monthly energy use and compare use patterns from one year to the next. You can also track changes in use before and after making home efficiency improvements. Stage Four can also involve use of alternative energy applications. Those joining the journey on the open road receive:
• A monthly Building Our Energy Future Together newsletter
• A weekly emailed energy tip
• A free energy efficient compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulb
• A Join the Journey yard sign and window sign
• Invitations to an annual energy field day and dinner
• Free Access to Smart Energy Source case studies and reports
• MySource Meter
