Energy Efficiency
Efficient energy use, sometimes simply called energy efficiency,
is using less energy to provide the same level of energy service. Efficient energy use is achieved primarily by means of more efficient technology or processes rather than by changes in individual behavior. Energy efficiency is what it is. Energy conservation is what we do.
If the device we plug into the wall uses less energy than the device it replaces or it uses less energy than similar devices we could have purchased, that device is energy efficient. If we decide to unplug our electrical appliances when we aren’t using them or turn down our thermostats and put on a sweater or put our computer on standby, we are conserving energy.
Renewable energy is energy which comes from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, and geothermal heat, which are renewable (naturally replenished). Energy efficiency and renewable energy are said to be the twin pillars of sustainable energy policy (The Twin Pillars of Sustainable Energy: Synergies between Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Technology and Policy).

Energy Audits

The goal of an audit is to develop a specific list of existing problems that may, when corrected, save the homeowner significant amounts of energy expense. Home energy audits identify where energy is being lost from a home. Audits can also determine the efficiency of a home's heating and cooling systems. Home energy audits identify drafts and leaks around doors and windows or in the ductwork through which conditioned air flows. They can also determine whether a home has adequate insulation in its walls, ceilings, attic, and foundation. Audits can highlight ways to conserve hot water and electricity. There are two ways of obtaining a home energy audit— homeowners can do it themselves or hire a professional home energy auditor.

Energy Makeover
The Energy Makeover program is designed to assist home owners with rising energy costs. It also encourages good stewardship of our natural resources through basic energy efficiency practices. The program promotes partnerships with faith based/non-profit organizations, government (local, state and national agencies), businesses and utility companies.
