MySource Meter is an online application developed through SES that allows residential consumers to monitor their daily and monthly energy use for free.
MySource meter works by translating data from various available metering technologies and placing that data into a graphical display that appears on a consumer’s MySource Meter page. This process occurs automatically through two-way communication systems established through the utility. The communication systems allow utilities to read meters automatically and eliminates the need for utilities to send a meter reader to a consumer’s property each month.
By monitoring daily energy use, consumers will be able to see the effects various factors have on their electricity use. For example, consumers can see the difference in their energy use on weekends (shown in red) compared to weekdays (shown in blue).
MySource Meter also allows consumers to compare the previous year’s monthly data to the current year’s monthly data. If they have implemented any energy conservation practices into their homes, they will be able to see the effects the improvements had on their monthly use. Consumers can also determine the effects of energy-saving ideas, such as adding insulation, caulking windows or weather stripping their home’s thermal envelope.
SES is currently working to incorporate additional features that will provide insight into the energy readings. These features will include daily temperature reads, hourly use data, rate input, outage alerts, energy use analysis, energy use comparisons and energy savings tips.Appliance Calculators
MySource users have access to interactive appliance calculators on their MySource Meter page. This calculators show cost savings associated with energy saving appliances. Calculators currently available are for electric dryers, electric water heaters, televisions, refrigerators and lighting.
