Smart Grid Minimize

With new energy policy on the horizon, industry leaders are fully aware that they operate in volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous environments. The competencies and skills needed to succeed in this new environment are not as apparent or well defined. As we strive to implement new technologies that drive new processes, efficiencies and productivity, it will be equally important that we plan for developing new skill sets and organizational leadership
Hard Skills
Traditional engineering has evolved over decades with relatively little change. Smart grid presents the need for a new level of skills and abilities that are transforming what will be required of a traditional engineer. Smart Energy Source will evaluate those skills sets and how utilities can prepare the human capital to keep pace with the capital investments.
Organizational Processes/Critical Thinking
The transformation needed to meet the new smart grid will require re-thinking business models and processes. Employees will need to see the organization more interrelated versus the traditional silo model. Smart Energy Source will research ways to implement strategies for moving the utility to a more interdependent organization.
Leadership Competencies
A recent study provided by the Center for Creative Leadership indicated that the top priority in the energy sector related to leadership is the ability to lead employees. A key element of this research will be how to effectively lead employees in areas that can achieve optimum capacity as we progress toward a new business model.
Results/Value Culture
Many would argue that the culture within many utilities today does not provide a framework for innovation, creativity and flexibility. Smart Energy Source believes that it is highly important that we utilize new methods to transform the current culture to a broader organizational perspective, one that values results more than current methods and models.
